Pool and Beach

There are 2 impressive pools for adults at the Riu Palace Bavaro and one for the children. One of the big pools has a swim up bar where you can have any drink you desire plus there is a jacuzzi if you are in the mood for serious relaxation. You don’t have to worry about waking up early to get a good spot at the pool as the chairs are plenty with sun or shade. The main pool has a fairly decent depth of 5 feet of warm water. Water aerobics and many more activities are available at the pool for you to enjoy. The entertainment at the pool bar is very amusing. The pool at the VIP section is very quiet; ideal for a getaway. Pool service is pretty good.

The white sand on the beach at the Riu Palace Bavaro is simply breathtaking. Beach is well maintained and is often clean up of leafs and other debris that may appear. Depending on the time of the year a very small amount of seaweed could be present but is nothing to worry about. The water is pretty shallow making it very safe and waves are fairly weak. Lots of chairs in the beach area with the alternative of taking a sunbath or remaining in the cool shades provided by the tropical palm trees. Getting up early to get a good spot at the beach is not necessary. The hotel tends to have more people on the weekends but even; then there’s plenty of space for everyone. Vendors don’t bother much at the beach, just say no thanks politely and they will go.

Food

There are 5 restaurants at the Riu Palace Bavaro. You will be delighted in every bite you take at the buffet or the exquisite a la cartes. The main restaurant at the resort is the Montecristo buffet. It is the ideal spot to get your breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the mornings you can enjoy a nice breakfast. Lots of fruits, and juices to choose from. At lunch you can decide for the cold buffet or go the traditional way for a hot meal. You can choose between salads, breads, pizza, different meats available and more. Dinners at the Montecristo can be quite interesting. You will need to wear formal clothing (t-shirts with sleeves for men) and three times a week you are going to see special themed nights with exciting new dishes. Dominican food and Asian Cuisine night are a few examples of what you will be able to experience. The charbroiled lobster is a dish that should not be missed at the buffet.

The 4 a la carte restaurants at the Riu Palace Bavaro are a nice alternative if you want to try something different. First is the Krystal fusion, in there you can taste some lamb, tuna tataki and shrimps. The Italian restaurant La Bambola is a must for pasta lovers and the buffet style starters are something else. The Geisha is a Japanese restaurant where you can eat sushi and shrimp tempura among other dishes.

Another restaurant at the Riu Palace Bavaro is the Taino buffet that turns into an a la carte at dinner time. The day time menu at the Taino includes pizza, fruit, salads, fries and grilled meats. At night is a steakhouse where you can try a wide variety of meat cuts like pork ribs.

At the a la carte restaurants you can choose between two times to have your dinner (7:00pm and 9:00pm); the first sitting is preferable otherwise you might get hungrier than you expect. Remember that in order to eat at any of the a la carte you must book them as soon as possible plus do not forget to wear formal clothing (long trousers and shirt with sleeves for men).

Entertainment

You won’t get bored at the Riu Palace Bavaro. Lots of fun activities to do like: windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling, gym, tennis, table tennis, sailing and a scuba diving lesson in the pool. Other water activities like banana boat, jet ski and parasailing are available at the resort for an extra charge. Golf enthusiasts will have a great time at the 18 golf course nearby. The daily entertainment is pretty amusing and the children’s club is ideal for families with kids. Great relaxing massages at the spa for anyone that wants pampering.

At night you can sit at the theater and watch the Michael Jackson imitation, be amazed at the magic show and dance to the tunes of a live band. There is a casino at the Riu Palace Macao as well. If you can manage to learn some words in Spanish before visiting the resort it will help you greatly to have a better vacation.
