The Punta Espada Golf Course is very well known in the Caribbean. Located at Cap Cana just 7 miles to the south of the Punta Cana International Airport; this course has a place in the heart of most professional golfers. This incredible course will let you enjoy a beautiful ocean view, being in contact with nature, and of course, will let you have a great golf experience. The Punta Espada Golf Club is nothing short of amazing. The place has been known as one of the main golfing spots in the whole Caribbean area.
It has surpassed other courses with its design.
The area was designed by Jack Nicklaus and you can be certain it has been one of his notable achievements in Punta Cana.
Course Special Features
There are many things that make the Punta Espada Golf Course stand above many others. This 18 hole course is more than 7000 yards in length and has been part of the PGA Tour championship. What makes this golf club so special? In one word everything. The first thing you will notice is the exceptional view that can be appreciated from almost every hole. The elevation of the terrain varies greatly and if you combine this with the raging sea, sparkling waterfalls and abundant vegetation you will immediately see this area as a true architectural wonder.
An interesting detail about the Punta Espada Golf Course is that almost half of the holes (8) are directly along the shoreline. There is a specific hole the 13th that has captured the attention of many; This par-3 hole demands a 249 yard shot over the ranging sea into a small green patch. No need to worry if the shot scares you; there is a bail out area to the right although is still 220 yards away. Other holes that might impress you are the second hole a par-5 which is 611 yards away that requires at least 3 good shots in the best case scenario to get close to it and the 8th hole a par-4 that has a bunker with enough sand to cover a huge area that extends all the way to the beach.
The scenery from almost every point in the field is so beautiful that is hard to describe with words. Jack Nicklaus, which is the designer took complete advantage of the location and simply developed to its full potential. The astonishing green landscape that covers a great part of the Punta Espada Golf Course can be maintained with the use of Paspalum grass. This type of grass is quite resilient to the sea water and can be easily used to indefinitely keep the green appearance of this state of the art course.
Fees and Services
The cost of this exclusive golf course can be a bit steep but its quality cannot be matched. The green fees to play at this golf course are approximately 320 USD per person during high season (generally Nov to April); if you want to save some cash you can also play during the low season (May to October). The Punta espada golf rates for playing during the low season are around $275 per person and if you can book the twilight time which is after 1:30 pm you can lower the fee to a mere $160 (those are great savings for this amazing golf course). This fee includes the cart fees, the caddies, taxes, range balls, water bottles, beers, sodas, lunch and score card. The use of rental clubs in the Punta Espada Golf Course is optional; if you do not have your own golf clubs you can rent them for around $60. The caddies are very helpful and if you are not a pro player their advice can help your game greatly.
