Rooms

There are a total of 506 rooms in the Iberostar Dominicana. They are divided into 335 double rooms, 160 Junior suites and 11 family rooms. The rooms at the resort are wonderfully decorated with desks, wooden chairs, small tables and other important amenities. There are certain elements that are included in every room like: bath tub, shower, toilet, air conditioning, ceiling fan, hairdryer, coffee making machine, phone, safety box ($2/day), satellite TV, min bar with soft drinks, water and beer, iron with ironing board and internet connection (extra fee). The key difference between the room types is the amount of space, beds and overall view from the balcony. Family rooms have 3 beds. Junior suites are improved versions of the double rooms (having more space and better view). You can also choose between a king size bed or full size beds depending on your taste and how many people are staying.

The maids keep the rooms well cleaned and sometimes even make animals with the towels. Water pressure can be a bit lower than you are used to but is nothing to worry about. If you have problems with the outlets in your room the gift shop sells several adapters.

Pool and Beach

The pools at the Iberostar Dominicana are something to talk about. The main pool is always kept clean and is deep enough to have a great time in it. There is a another pool for children that is quite shallow but perfect for them and finally the pool that is part from the resort next door but can also be used and is not as deep as the main pool. The service around the pool is very quick to respond when you need a drink (especially if you tip) plus there are plenty of chairs. The beach is simply breathtaking. The sand is very white and the sound of the wind with the waves creates the most tranquil atmosphere you can conceive. The water is quite shallow at first but the depth increases very fast.

The staff at the resort makes a great effort to keep the water clean and out of seaweed. The service at the beach is also without comparison. The waiters check on you on a frequent basis to see if you desire any drink.

The trick to enjoy a full day at the beach is to find a good palapa with decent shade. The first thing to remember is that you must “reserve” your spot early and I mean very early. Getting up at 5:30 am should do the trick. Once you use your towel to reserve your well shaded palapas you can return to your bed and return later after you had breakfast. If you get up late finding a good area is a matter of luck.

Food

The Iberostar Dominicana resort provides a culinary experience that you will never forget. One main buffet, 2 beach buffets and 7 a la carte restaurants are going to be more than enough to satisfy the most demanding appetite. The first restaurant that you must know about is the Higuey buffet restaurant. The buffet is open for the 3 main meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The main buffet focus on international cuisinePizza slice and some typical Dominican dishes. The waiters are very efficient (quick on bringing drinks and taking out dirty dishes).

Lunch and dinner are a great thrill, the pasta bar and freshly cooked fish will definitely delight your day. One of the most distinctive aspects of the buffet is a small non-smoking area which is perfect if you don’t like smoking and or have children.

The 2 beach buffets are simply amazing. You can enjoy the delicious taste of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches, fries, nachos and beautifully prepared fresh salads.

If you want dessert you cannot forget to pay a visit to the ice cream bar, they offer a very nice coconut ice cream that you won’t forget.

There are 7 a la carte restaurants that you can visit at the Iberostar Dominicana. Depending on how long you are staying you may book up to 3 a la carte restaurants per week of staying.

First is La Cana Beach Restaurant this place is open for breakfast and lunch as a buffet but at dinner it becomes La Cana Steakhouse where you need a reservation. The steaks prepared are well presented and the seasoning used provides a unique flavor. The ribs with the barbecue sauce are a must for everyone to taste. The place also has an ocean view which enhances the food tasting experience.

The restaurant Maria Bonita has a menu consisting on dishes of the Mexican cuisine. One of the most delicious dishes in this restaurant is the flanked steak with cheese. Do not leave the place without trying it. Another good thing about this place is that is air conditioned and smoking is not permitted.

La Sibila (Gourmet restaurant) is known to make some of the finest dishes in the Iberostar Dominicana. The grilled lobster dish is good enough reason to make a reservation at this a la carte. La Pagoda Oriental (Asian cuisine) is another alternative for eating at this resort. The sushi appetizers are pretty good, the service amazing and the place is beautifully decorated. La Marimba Sea Food restaurant at the Iberostar Dominicana Resort is the place for the tuna steak will delight your palate. The rock star café is another fantastic place where you can eat. Hamburgers, sandwiches and salads are all part of the menu in an environment reminiscent of the 50’s. This last restaurant does not require a reservation so you can have dinner here as many times as you like.

There are occasions when the a la carte restaurants at the Iberostar Dominicana might be overbooked; in that case if you really want to eat there you can go at dinner time and wait if someone that has made a reservation does not show up so you can take a table. Remember the dress code when going to a la carte restaurants (long pants, shirt with sleeves and closed shoes).
