What is the drinking age in the Dominican Republic?
How old do you have to be to drink alcohol in Punta Cana?
The legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the Dominican Republic is 18 years old; of course that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be that age to be able to drink. When you stay at the resorts is not common for the staff to check the id of anyone unless is too obvious.
Another factor that could be decisive in getting alcohol is the bracelet given by the resort. Some hotels give bracelets to identify the older guests from the younger ones. As you register in the front desk you receive an adult or a children bracelet. Most of the times if you are above 15 you are likely going to receive an adult bracelet but that is not always the case. There are resorts that don’t use the bracelet system so in those cases minors are mostly identified by how old they look if they seem like adults they are going to be treated like them.
In some instances certain resorts can be quite strict about the age; adult only resorts tend to be pickier about the age requirements but your typical family resort won’t be much of a problem.
Basically the drinking is managed by the parents if they think their teens can handle the drinks they can get as much as they can with the adults bracelets but if they are unable to keep control the parents or the responsible adults will have to step in.
