Renting a Car in the Dominican Republic

I am heading to Punta Cana for 4 days for a wedding. My main question -- Should I rent a car when I'm there? Is there anywhere to drive along the beach?

Is not recommended to rent a car in Punta Cana if it is your first time, for safety reasons. If you wish to go driving along the beach you could consider the xtreme buggy tour.
