Practicing Punta Cana Snorkeling

Punta Cana snorkeling can be more rewarding than you can imagine. Snorkeling is simply one of the most fun and entertaining activities that you can do in any body of water. If you are an expert you already know how amazing it can feel but if you are a first timer keeping in mind certain things will make the experience more enjoyable. When you snorkel the single most important thing to remember is to relax. Relaxing means to get rid of all your fears in the water and just let go.

As you snorkel you just need to get used to breathe through the snorkeling tube. There is no need to worry if you feel you are having trouble breathing; you can simply elevate your head above water and you will be fine.

Finding a good spot

Snorkeling is very easy to do and relatively inexpensive but if you really want to enjoy it you will need crystal clear calmed waters. The waters near Punta Cana are indeed one of the best to practice this amazing activity. One of the highlights of the beaches in Punta Cana is that their protected by a huge 24 mile coral reef that cover most of the coast. This reef is a natural barrier against the raging sea and provides the perfect conditions for snorkeling in an almost ideal way.

Most of the Punta Cana snorkeling can be done at any point near the reef; of course there are other areas where it can be experienced. If you are staying at a resort you can easily snorkel at the beach; most hotels provide all the snorkeling equipment required in their all inclusive packages. The beach can be a great spot to start getting the hang of snorkeling but if you want to see the abundant marine life you could go in an excursion near the reef in the area.

In some instances the resort can give a Punta Cana snorkeling excursion to the reef with all the equipment included as part of the vacation package. The only problem in those types of excursions in the Dominican Republic is that many people love to go so you probably will have to share the waters and you won’t be able to feel very relaxed if someone is crashing into you every minute.

Excursions

If you want something different you might have to hire a guide to take you to the reef for a small fee. Some guides can charge 30 to 40 USD to take you to a private tour to the reef. That is a good price especially since you and your family can enjoy privately the wonders that lie under the beautiful sea.

Another alternative available to you is to go for the big excursions to Saona Island and Catalina isle. These Punta Cana snorkeling excursions require a slightly bigger budget ranging from $75 to $90 per person if you are an adult; children normally go for half price. If you are a true hardcore fan of snorkeling and scuba diving those excursions are the way to go.

The trip to the islands can take from 1 to 2 hours and they are worth every penny. Meals, snacks, drinks and all the equipment you might need are all included in the price of the excursion. You start early in the morning by getting into the shuttle that will take you to the port where you will take a catamaran that goes to the isles. The boat usually makes a stop before getting to the isles where you can take a break and enjoy your Punta Cana snorkeling to your heart’s content. You can admire the true beauty of the marine life even before arriving to your destination. The islands are protected parks so construction projects cannot be done near them which explains why this area still conserves its beauty to this day.

As you get closer to the islands you will be able to see an astonishing coral reef that’s even more beautiful than the one near the coast of Punta Cana. There is a wider variety of marine life in this reef plus the water is even clearer, can you imagine that! One of the elements that intrigue visitors the most are the shipwrecks that can are located there. These shipwrecks are a huge part of the Punta Cana snorkeling experience as they became the home of lots of different animal species. Dolphins, barracuda fish, sharks, turtles, green moray eels, crabs, octopuses and all kinds of colorful fish are a tiny part of the marine life that can be contemplated before your very eyes. Once you get to the shore; a surprise will be waiting for you. A feast where you can eat all kinds of sea foods is going to be the conclusion of the experience in the Dominican Republic.
