Punta Cana International Airport

What to expect once you arrive

Punta Cana International AirportThe Punta Cana International Airport is located in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic. The airport was built in a traditional Dominican style with open-air terminals, as you can see it has the roofs covered in palm fronds. That design gives the visitors a strong feel of the Caribbean taste.

This airport has become the busiest in the whole Dominican Republic, because it receives an increasing big quantity of visitors yearly. That is the main reason for the need of an expansion for bigger aircrafts and the opening of new routes to the other side of the world.

After getting out of the airplane remember: the cell phone roaming charges, but mainly don't forget to have the important documents at hand, such as:

  • passport

  • identifications

  • tickets

  • and the 10 (USD or Euros) per person, to purchase the tourist card.

The Punta Cana International Airport counts with various facilities and services including: snack bars, medical services, duty free zone, money exchange, telephones, taxis, and car rental (not recommended unless you know the laws and how the locals drive there).

At the moment of finally getting your luggage, lots of luggage carriers are waiting around to help the visitors (if you want to tip, the standard per bag ranges from 1.00 USD to 5.00 USD). Then your tour representative will have a sign of the resort you will be staying and he will show you the way to the bus you should get in for going to the hotel or resort. In the case that you are not on a tour, there are many taxis available around the airport accepting dollars, Euros, and pesos. There is also the option of booking an airport transfer with anticipation.
