Macao Beach

Macao beach is one of the typically overlooked spots by tourists in the Dominican Republic that can surprise you. The beach is located approximately 25 to 30 minutes from most of the resorts that are found in the Punta Cana area. You won’t believe your eyes when you step in the ivory white sands and the aquamarine waters.

One particularity of the beach is that there are no resorts being developed at the shoreline, unlike Bavaro and Punta Cana.

That is why Macao has been preserved in its natural condition and is not crowded as the other beaches.

People wanting to get away from everything can spend a day in the beach to let all the worries disappear and if is excitement that you desire, you can find it as well. Relaxation and adventure can both be enjoyed at this very spot.

What can you see in Macao Beach?

As you get close to the Macao area you will notice a quite calming atmosphere. The hill nearby allows you to get a glimpse of one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. As you enter the beach (the left side) you will be able to see the one of the top surfing spots of the region. The waves are pretty impressive especially when they break against the cliff.

The Macao surfing camp located there offers lessons to those that have never thought about surfing before but want to give it a try. Even if you have some experience in this sport they can help you to hone your skills a little more. Do not worry about the surfboard as they will provide it.

The right part of the beach on the other hand is a place with calm waters where you can sit back and enjoy the view. If you get hungry or thirsty; no need to panic! You can find several huts in this area selling all kinds food and beverages. As you can imagine you can get fresh seafood (different types of fish like mahi mahi, lobster, etc) and a nice president beer to enjoy the moment.

Getting to Macao

There are several ways you can use to get to Macao beach. One of them is to join an excursion like the all terrain vehicles (ATV) one, the buggy tour or the safari among others. They normally make a stop at the beach as part of their tour so you can take advantage of the occasion and have some fun at the beach. These excursions usually remain at the beach for about 20 minutes before moving on; so if you need more time there are other ways to get there.

You can also rent a car to make the trip by yourself and spend the entire day there but is going to cost a bit. Another alternative is to hire a taxi to take you there and pay him to wait for you. This can cost you some bucks (around 50 USD) but is worth it if you want to take a day to see all this beach has to offer.
