Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana

Where is Bavaro beach?

Many people make the mistake of thinking that Punta Cana and the Bavaro area are one and the same. That’s not exactly right, Bavaro is located north of Punta Cana. The general area of Bavaro extends from Cabeza de Toro all the way to the north just before getting to Macao beach.

The specific area of Punta Cana stretches from Cabeza de Toro all the way to the south to the Punta Cana Beach Resort. The coastal area of Bavaro has more than 10 km. So there is more than enough beach for all visitors to enjoy. In any case people commonly refer to the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic that consists of Bavaro and Punta Cana as the area of Punta Cana.

Getting to Bavaro

Depending from your departure point you can get to Bavaro in a reasonable amount time. If you arrive at the Punta Cana International Airport you can get there in approximately 25 to 35 minutes by car or bus; from Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo it can take easily about 4 hours to get to Bavaro; if you are in La Romana Airport getting there might take up to 2 hours. The ideal path of course is from the Punta Cana airport if you just want to start enjoying the Bavaro beach area as soon as possible.

What to do in Bavaro?

There is so much to do at Bavaro you won’t have time to enjoy all it has to offer. First things first which is a visit to the Bavaro beach. The water at the beach is simply breathtaking; you won’t be able to resist the temptation to just jump in it. If you like snorkeling and scuba diving; the coral reef near the shore is the place to be. One of the main benefits of the reef is that it serves as a natural barrier. It can break the big waves creating swimming conditions which are appropriate for small children to play near the shore.

The reef is over 30 km long and is the largest near the island. 

Besides exploring the marine life there are other alternatives to have fun at the beach. You can choose to go kayaking, parasailing, go on a jet ski and even windsurf.

There are also catamaran trips to exotic locations such as Isla Saona and Isla Catalina. Traveling in helicopter and gaze at the everlasting stretches of white sand is a thrill like no other, the marinarium is the place to go if you have children that are curious about exploring the depths of the sea and a trip to Dolphin Island is recommended for all those that love watching well trained dolphins.
