Most resorts in the region have excursions that include lessons with knowledgeable instructors particularly for the novices. That doesn’t mean you cannot participate in the excursion if you are a more experienced rider. Riders of all levels are more than welcomed in the excursions; of course, if you have never ridden a horse in your life there are several things that you can do to have a more pleasant time.

Horseback Riding Tips

One One of the most important things you need to know when enjoying the Dominican Republic horseback riding is to keep your feet down when you are over a horse.

Riding horses during sunset

Doing this can provide more stability especially if the horse get scared for any reason. Second your posture is also quite important. You need to keep your back straight with your head and shoulders up; that position makes you very stable and less likely to fall on the ground if the horse gets excited. If the horse is standing still without moving, you can lean back a little. This can make the horse move forward. The very same position can also make the horse a bit uncomfortable, so only do it when there is no other way to make him move. Pants are also quite important.

Jeans are good for this type riding, but shorts are not advisable if you want to go horseback riding.

Most of the rides will take you on a walk along the beach contemplating the never ending ocean. There are other rides that will make you experience the tropical hills and forests. With most of the area covered, you will feel the relaxation and peace of what a vacation really is.

The horses for the rides are in decent shape as you would expect from the resorts. Some offer horseback riding lessons for adults as well as children before going to the actual excursion to ensure the safety of the guests. In most cases, protective gear like helmets are offered as well.

The cost for the activity is approximately 75.00 US dollars per adult and 37 US dollars per child for two hours of riding. The distance covered by the tour can vary, but it is something like 3 km for the first hour. At the beginning of the ride, a picture of you is taken. When the ride is over, you are offered a bottle of rum with your picture on it (for a small fee).

You may also have the alternative to ride in a special romantic ride at the Punta Cana resorts. This ride is for two people only and includes an astonishing two hour ride through mountain trails and rivers full of fresh water, fishing, swimming in private pool, champagne, all you can eat buffet and more.
